Become a Volunteer
Whether you live in Montreal, Vancouver or Glasgow, please consider joining our team of volunteers. You will enjoy the experience, and the time you contribute helps makes QFHS a better family history society.
Volunteer opportunities
We are looking for volunteers to fill the following positions. To learn more, contact Joan Benoit, executive secretary, at qfhs@bellnet.ca.
"I started volunteering in the library because I realized it was the best way to find out what resources are there and how to use them, and to meet other people who share my interest in genealogy. My job there involves helping other people, but I always learn something too."
Janice Hamilton, QFHS volunteer librarian

Library duty
Thanks to many volunteers, the QFHS library is able to open six days a week and Wednesday evenings from September to June. During the summer, our library is open Monday through Wednesday from 10 am to 3:00 pm.
We need new daily, duty librarians to maintain our opening hours. If enough volunteers come forward, a team of two librarians could be on duty each day and we could extend our opening hours on Wednesdays from possibly 10:00 am to 9:00 p.m. during the months of September to June. To do this, we need librarians for three shifts.
Commitment:
1 definite day or evening per month
Hours: 10:00 am -3:00 pm; Wednesday evenings 6:30 - 9:30 pm; or Sunday 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Responsibilities:
Greet members and visitors
Assist or guide members and visitors with their research
Answer the telephone
Check books and periodicals in and out
Read book shelves for misplaced books
If you are willing and able, please contact Joan Benoit, Executive Secretary, at qfhs@bellnet.ca or 514-695-1502.

Genealogy article writers
Our Connections editor is always looking for articles of genealogical interest to our members. How did you find that elusive ancestor? What got you started in family history research? You can also scan a photo of your ancestor and send it to Dawn Miller Ouellette with a brief story about them. For more information, contact Dawn at qfhs.editor@bellnet.ca,
Book reviewers
Read genealogy book(s) and write a review for our journal, Connections. This can be on a one-time or ongoing basis. Contact Dawn Miller Ouellette, editor, Connections, at qfhs.editor@bellnet.ca for more information.
Spring cleaners
A couple of times a year, a team of volunteers pitches in to move tables and chairs and give the Heritage Centre and Library a spring cleaning. If you would like to help, contact Joan Benoit, executive secretary, at qfhs@bellnet.ca for more information.
Telephone committee
Like to talk on the phone? If so, we have the perfect job for you. We need friendly people to join our telephone committee to contact Montreal-area members about once a month about lectures and unexpected Library closures. Contact Joan Benoit, executive secretary, at qfhs@bellnet.ca.
